I was passing by the abandoned Jaycee Park (Little River Parks previous name). It was grown up nearly waist high in weeds and trash was thrown all over the place. But the water was thundering over the dam and it drew me to it. As I stood there listening I was disgusted with all the trash and wondered why nobody would clean it up. Such a waste! A little voice in my head said; "What's wrong with you!" So began a nearly 5yr mission to clean it up. With a 22 inch Sears push mower and machete and axe.. I finally got the town of Zebulon to accept it into the town's Park and Rec. dept. as a town park.. I had it cleared from one end to the other. You could see every stone on the dam. Dates carved (now covered), go back into the 1800's. The foundations are from an old grist mill run last by Dave Privette.. it was washed away in a flood during WW2. I'm not in good health but wish just once more I could restore it back to the beauty it once held. There are a lot of sites where you can download them, but we use this one a lot because the stories are all free and they're original. Here's the link if anyone is interested. http://www.twirlygirlshop.com/short-stories-for-kidsAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00490234232841806409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5864183884210616555.post-62331816451085311642013-02-18T07:54:24.427-05:002013-02-18T07:54:24.427-05:00Thanks! We did need 2 people to watch the two kids but was well worth going. Also had to help 2 1/2 up steps to giant slide, which ended up being th highlight. You do need to check times and reserve a spot. We went during "free time" But called to secure spot.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5864183884210616555.post-12767973792428279202012-08-06T15:38:50.585-04:002012-08-06T15:38:50.585-04:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Capt. We went on a weekday when the admission is a little pricey, but it sounds like Sundays are a great time to visit.Capt. They have some pretend play areas ( planting area, store , kitchen area ). I found this space easier than marbles if you have little kids, but it is smaller and not as dynamic. I found marbles difficult with a 2 1/2 year old and 1 year old. It is too chaotic to watch Little ones.Marbles seems best with 1 child or older children.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5864183884210616555.post-12979690443929319802012-06-19T16:35:16.815-04:002012-06-19T16:35:16.815-04:00kool thankskool thanksAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5864183884210616555.post-31490581312304611622012-05-05T14:22:34.351-04:002012-05-05T14:22:34.351-04:00I just found your site while searching for info on...I just found your site while searching for info on Little River Park in Zebulon. I think the lo-fi feel adds to the festive-yet-congenial atmosphere -- it's definitely not the slick kind of media experience you get when you go to a Canes hockey game. But like you, I think that's part of its charm. :)

I didn't see them when the Rollergirls were still performing at the roller rink, before moving to Dorton Arena. I'm sure Dorton is a big step up from that.

The last time we were there I let the boys sit up on the cement next to the duct tape outlining the track -- it was definitely exciting, and thankfully we didn't get caught up in a wipeout. (Although considering my own particular sport, I don't think that would phase any of my boys.)

Nice post!Lisa Creech Bledsoehttp://theglowingedge.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5864183884210616555.post-21767884634199019962011-11-20T17:36:43.590-05:002011-11-20T17:36:43.590-05:00Came back here in mid-November to participate in &...Came back here in mid-November to participate in "Paddle the Pond" - a regular event on certain weekends where the park provides canoes and lifejackets for participants to explore the millpond. Cost is $7 a boat. Had a great time taking my preschooler in the boat and passing underneath the boardwalk that spans the pond.Capt.
